I would rather day is a slow to medium paced book. Some chapters have in depth detailing and is dragging the plot a bit. If you are a person who prefers fast paced ones, then it might not be a choice. Other than that, there were fun and humour that gives an enjoyable experience.?? Bunch if suspects and confusions keep the readers guessing till the end. If you a mystery fan like me, you would have figured out the culprit much before the climax. Jack’s characterization is substancial. Overall, a decent murder mystery with family sentiments, suspenses and little humour.|Nina Simon’s “Mother-Daughter Murder Night” is an exhilarating debut that brilliantly fuses a cozy mystery with compelling family dynamics, resulting in a story that is heartwarming, humorous, and utterly addictive. The Rubicon family, comprising three generations of strong-willed women, embarks on a captivating adventure to solve a murder in their Northern California coastal town. Lana is a successful business women but one day she got to know she had cancer and had to leave her town and stay with her daughter Beth with whom she have not gotten along well for years, and her granddaughter Jack. And then suddenly Jack is a suspect of a murder near their house. The pace of the book was really intriguing as it gave me a clear picture of the ocean, Beth?s house and its surrounding. Lana had seen a man like figure hauling something near the shore and she was determined to prove Jack?s innocence and bring the real culprit. It was fun going through their investigation as it made me feel like I was a part of the Rubican women?s. But in the process, many secrets and unexpected truths were revealed and some were shocking too. Reading a murder mystery is always a thrill and if you want to know whether Jack was the real culprit or not, do read this book.|”Mother Daughter Murder Night” is a book that attempts to combine elements of mystery, family drama, and humor, but unfortunately falls short of its ambitions. The story centers around Lana Rubicon, a high-powered businesswoman forced into a coastal town due to health issues, where her granddaughter stumbles upon a dead body, leading them into a murder investigation. One of the major drawbacks of this novel is its predictable and clich?d plot. The setup of a murder mystery in a sleepy coastal town, with a seemingly powerless protagonist who suddenly turns into a detective, feels overused and lacks originality. The characters, too, are rather one-dimensional, with Lana embodying the stereotypical strong-willed businesswoman, Beth the concerned daughter, and Jack the spunky teenager. These characters fail to evoke much empathy or interest. The writing style in “Mother Daughter Murder Night” is often inconsistent, with attempts at humor that feel forced and out of place, making the dialogue and interactions between characters awkward. The pacing is uneven, with long stretches of unnecessary exposition and slow development, which can leave readers disengaged.Furthermore, the resolution of the murder mystery lacks the depth and complexity one would hope for in a good mystery novel. The revelation of the true murderer feels rushed and unsatisfying, leaving the reader wanting more substance and intricacy in the plot.In summary, “Mother Daughter Murder Night” is a book that fails to deliver on its promises of a compelling mystery and strong family dynamics. It falls into the trap of using familiar tropes and lacks the originality and depth required to make it a standout in the genre. While it may offer some light entertainment, it ultimately leaves the reader with a sense of missed potential and unfulfilled promise.|I had this on my October TBR thinking it would be more suspenseful than it was. In the end, I don’t think it fits the October theme of the rest of my TBR, but it was still a great read. The book is an interesting blend of the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and a mystery. I love the setting in the central CA coast area. I couldn’t help but get Big Little Lies vibes considering the setting and the subtle dark notes. Later in the book you meet a ranch family going through a battle for land – hence the Yellowstone comparison. This wasn’t one of those books that I couldn’t put down, but I did enjoy the story, and it moves quickly since the chapters are pretty short. As a now motherless daughter who lost my mom to cancer, I really love the author’s story of why she wrote this book. Would love to see this as a mini series or movie!|I found some of the male characters a little stereotypical, but not the women. They were smart, & driven. Enjoyed the novel & look forward to a second.|The books 3 main characters reminded me of Gilmore Girls Loreli, Rory & the grandma but with a murder mystery thrown in. It was a good read & I read the book in 2 days -it has funny characters and kept me guessing who the murderer was. (TRIGGER WARNING -SPOILER -this is early on in the book but one character has cancer -treatment descriptions and possibility of terminal diagnosis suggested.)|This was a fun read for multiple reasons! I am familiar with the area, I grew up living with my mother and my grandmother ~ relationships similar to those in this read. And this was an intriguing mystery as well!|Engaging read right from the start to the surprising finish!
