In this book from the critically acclaimed, multimillion-copy bestselling Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the incredible life of Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid freedom fighter. Little Nelson’s given name was Rolihlahla, which means ‘troublemaker’ in Xhosa, his native language. But his rebellious nature would lead him to become one of the world’s most inspirational civil right’s leaders and anti-apartheid revolutionaries. Despite the many years of imprisonment and adversity he faced, Nelson remained victorious and was voted to become South Africa’s first Black president. This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the activist turned president?s life.|Es un libro muy bonito y de bien material. MeEncant? y a mi hijo tambi?n le encant? . Esta colecci?n de libros est? muy padre !||A wonderful lesson about fighting injustice, as Jesus did.|A mi hija le encantan!||My son has at least 20 of these Little People, Big Dreams books. And we love them all. They are very interesting and he learns about all different kinds of people (artists, writers, architects, sports stars, activists, politicians, musicians, fashion designers, etc.) Some are super famous (Gandhi). Some are not super famous (Zaha Hadid–well, at least I never heard of her before reading the book.) They are diverse in abled-ness, ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, etc. All the books are very informative nd I feel really teach my son a lot about so many different people currently and in the past. They all follow the same structure–telling the story of a renowned person from the point of view of the person as a child. This book is about Nelson Mandela. It starts when he is a child in his village with his tribe and shares is birth name. I never thought about his ?real? name. It was interesting to learn he was given the name Nelson in school. It is an appealing story about a man who stood up for and fought for what he believed in even though he ended up in jail. He triumphed, apartheid fell, and he became the first black president. It is a very inspiring story. The illustrations are colorful and engaging. My son loves them. He is always excited to see we’ve gotten another Little People, Big Dreams book. This one had some topics that were a little hard for him to grasp (black people not having any rights as citizens and someone going to jail for standing up for what?s right.) But I feel it led to some good conversations. Overall, I definitely recommend this book (and all the Little People, Big Dreams books.)|My 8 year old loves these little people, big dream books. They are so educational.
