Tulsidas (1532-1623 AD) poet and philosopher told the story of Ram, prince of Ayodhya in Avadhi, a dialect of Hindi Spoken in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradhesh. Ram Charit Manas consists of over thousand stanzas, each about 10-18 lines. Over the years it has been dramatised and performed by numerous theatre troupes. The dramatisation is known as Ramlila and has become an integral part of Dassera celebrations, especially in th regions that speak Hindi.
